Greater Minnesota Worker Center Organizing Job Opportunities

The Greater Minnesota Worker Center currently is looking for organizers to work in the St Cloud area. Check out these two positions that are currently available.

  1.  Job Posting: Bilingual English/Spanish Organizer

The Greater Minnesota Worker Center is a community-based organization that organizes low-wage workers in the Greater St. Cloud area. We bring together low-wage workers with community leaders to bring about positive change for workers in the community and on the job. We build power for low-wage workers through organizing, education, advocacy, and leadership development strategies.

We are hiring an organizer to build workers’ committees in the Latino community in Greater St. Cloud, Cold Spring, Willmar, and other areas across Central and Western Minnesota. Our mission is to bring together workers across ethnic backgrounds to advocate for changes on the job, this organizer would be tasked with building membership amongst Spanish-speaking workers to strengthen our broad committee of low-wage workers, especially in strategic industries.  This organizer will work with the board and organizers to build a multi-lingual, multi-cultural committee of workers supporting each other’s struggles for justice.

Duties:

  • Recruit, train, and develop worker leaders
  • Develop workers into members, member organizers, and leadership positions
  • Increase formal membership and general participation especially with Latino workers in the organization
  • Lead trainings on workers’ rights: health and safety, organizing, unemployment, workers comp, etc.
  • Lead trainings on immigration oriented topics: DACA/DAPA, naturalization, etc.
  • Identify and craft strategic industry campaigns, pursuing potential communities of interest in meatpacking, agriculture, construction, and other low-wage sectors
  • Support local, state, and federal issue campaigns for immigration reform
  • Participate in Democracy 2050 political education program with low-income workers and people of color
  • Build strategic relationships with community allies (politicians, non-profits, faith, academic, labor)
  • Support fundraising and reporting with funders
  • Use google forms and database to track worker contacts and activities
  • Any other duties as may be assigned

Reports To: Executive Director 

Qualifications:

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Highly self-motivated, ability to work independently with limited supervision
  • Bilingual English/Spanish
  • Ability, willingness to interpret in multi-lingual settings
  • 1-2 years of worker (preferred) or similar direct action organizing
  • Strong, demonstrated campaign planning and strategic planning skills
  • Strong commitment to social and economic justice
  • Experience working with diverse communities and as a part of a diverse team
  • Proven ability to generate written reports quickly and efficiently
  • Strong attention to detail and highly receptive to interpersonal dynamics
  • Proficiency in English and Spanish
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license, automobile (to be used for work purposes) and auto insurance

Desired Skills

  • Proven ability to fundraise from union organizations, government grants or foundations
  • Union organizing experience
  • Experience as a lead on worker organizing campaigns

Salary

Commensurate with experience, includes healthcare and retirement.
