Workers at Jennie-O walk off the job, allege discrimination

On Monday June 10, about 35 to 40  production workers at the Jennie-O Turkey Store in Melrose, Minnesota walked off the line because of alleged discrimination.  After about 3 hours of protest and a rally supported by the Greater Minnesota Worker Center workers went home and later met with the company to address their grievances.

“After about three hours of protest in the parking lot of Jennie-O’s Melrose plant, the workers left for home.
The workers conducted strategy meeting after protest and agreed to respond to requests for a meeting by senior management dispatched by the corporate office in Willmar.
The workers selected a committee to represent them in the meeting. The meeting was held at the plant located at 1159 E Main Street in Melrose, Minnesota.
Jennie-O management apparently apologized for what happened, retracted their earlier position relating to Muslim daily prayers, promised to conduct swift investigations into workers allegations and would take appropriate action after the investigations are concluded.”

“We are pleased with the outcome of the rally” says Ahmed Ali, the Executive Director of Greater Minnesota Worker Center. “The workers banded together to fight for their rights and they won a well-deserved victory” he added.
